Washington state has many inhabited islands. Some of these islands are close to Seattle and offer visitors a quiet getaway that can be reached in a couple of hours or less.

  • Vashon Island  A close-in island off the shores of West Seattle ( 15 minute ferry ride). Farms, horse ranches, parks and beaches abound on this centrally located island. It also has shopping, bed and breakfasts and restaurants, art galleries, and local artists.

    • The town of Vashon has a main street with quaint shops, art galleries and restaurants for shopping, dining and exploring. You can find bed and breakfasts, cottages and other hideaways throughout the island. The island has one of the oldest artist communities in the state. From various locations around the island there are breathtaking views of the Puget sound, neighboring islands and mountains.

  •  Whidbey Island The fifth longest island (about 40 miles) in the continental United States. The island has small villages, quaint shops, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, hiking, beach combing and other indoor and outdoor activities.

    • Langley, also known as "Langley by the Sea", is a small seaside village with a population of around 1000 residents. The town is on a bluff overlooking the Saratoga Passage, Camano Island and the Cascade mountains. It has art galleries, local artists, bed and breakfasts, specialty shops and restaurants for shopping, dining and exploring this quaint village. From various locations along the main street there are breathtaking views of Saratoga Passage, and neighboring islands. Langley is a great starting point for exploring Whidbey island.
